Ralf Carlström presents the EPMA fellowship award 2022 to Prof. Thomas Weißgärber

Prof. Weißgärber received the EPMA Fellowship Award on October 10 at the WorldPM 2022 Congress & Exhibition in Lyon as a recognition from the scientific/academic community of his significant contribution to the development of the powder metallurgy industry. He is thus joining a remarkable row of awardees from the PM community. Thanks to EPMA for this great acknowledgement!

Thomas Weißgärber is one of the directors of Fraunhofer IFAM and heading the Dresden site of the branch. He also holds the professorship in powder metallurgy at Technische Universität Dresden.

For 25 years now, Thomas Weißgärber has been working in the field of applied research in powder metallurgy. His research focus lies on metallic lightweight materials, composite materials, high temperature materials, functional materials as well as materials for the energy sector. A main topic of his work is the development of highly thermally conductive and expansion-matched composites for applications in electronics. In addition to concepts for new high-temperature materials, he is also involved in the development of aluminum sintering in particular. The development of highly porous materials for chemical processes and energy storage is a further part of the research activities. In the future, the topics will be specifically expanded with the subjects of soft magnetic materials and complex concentrated alloys. In addition to classic powder-metallurgical technologies, Thomas Weißgärber is active in the field of additive manufacturing.
Thomas Weißgärber’s motivation is to continuously expand and build on existing competencies and to use the excellent know-how, especially in materials, powder metallurgy and additive manufacturing, for innovative, future-oriented solutions to generate optimal solutions in core areas such as energy technology, mobility and medical technology.
