Metal / Carbon Nanotube Composites
Carbon nanotubes (CNTs) have exceptional properties in terms of thermal and electrical conductivity, thermal expansion behavior and mechanical strength. The main challenge is to transfer these properties into a composite material. A very good understanding and continuous development of dispersion are essential in this process. Commercially available CNTs are characterized and specifically prepared so that they are available in dispersible form for the development of composite materials.
At the Fraunhofer IFAM Dresden, powder metallurgical metal/CNT composites are developed, for example with copper or aluminum. Thereby, the content of CNTs is specifically varied.
